Add order tags on order creation

Our app, Hyve - Post to Xero, is able to use the Shopify order tags to further customise how you want your orders to be posted to Xero. A few examples of custom settings we can enable include overriding line item accounts and tracking categories for orders with a specific tag, as well as including or excluding orders from auto-syncing to Xero. To automate the tagging process, we recommend using Shopify Flow — a free app by Shopify that makes it easy to build custom workflows. Shopify Flow allows you to automate tasks such as marketing, order fulfilment, inventory management, fraud prevention, and more. You can streamline business processes, customise how your store operates, and connect to other apps and external services.

Step-by-step walkthrough

Create a workflow

In Shopify Flow, click Create workflow to start configuring your custom workflow.

Choose one of the following options:

Automation generator
Manual method

Option 1: Automation generator

a. In the generator text field, enter the following phrase: When an order is created, tag the order with "Hyve - Post to Xero (Tag)"

b. Once the workflow has finished generating, click Preview.

c. Your workflow should look similar to the example below.

d. If it doesn’t, follow the Manual method steps instead.

Option 2: Manual method

a. Click Select a trigger.

b. Search for Order created and select it.

c. Click the + icon, then select Action.

d. Search for Add order tags and select it.

e. In the Tags field, type the tag you want (for example: Hyve - Post to Xero (Tag)). Click the + icon to add the tag.

f. Your workflow is now complete.

Click Turn on workflow.

Click Turn on to enable the automation for your store.

Once enabled, newly created orders will automatically be tagged.
