Show amounts as tax exclusive in Xero invoice
In certain cases, businesses would like to have invoices in Xero show amounts as tax-exclusive instead of tax-inclusive even though Shopify has the amounts as tax-inclusive and that's what gets sent over to Xero.
Example: An item costs $100 and tax is 10% so it's $10 in taxes. The tax inclusive amount is $110.
By default the Xero invoice will show it as tax inclusive, ie.
1x Item = $110, with the Subtotal being $110 and a line that says includes taxes of $10 and the Total being $110.
However, you would like the invoice to show,
1x Item = $100, with the Subtotal being $100 and have taxes of $10 for the total to be $110.

Invoice showing amounts as tax-exclusive (what we want here):

The good news is that the data itself is usually correct but it's just a matter of changing the display settings within Xero itself.
To do so, you just need to change the Invoice Settings for the invoice Branding.
- Select an invoice as an example in Xero.
- In the invoice editor, look for the “Branding” dropdown near the top (usually next to "Due Date" or "Reference")
- Note the selected branding theme (e.g. “Standard”, “Custom”, etc.)
- To edit it:
- Go to Settings > Invoice settings
- Under Branding themes, click the name of the theme you're using
- Select to show prices as tax exclusive instead of tax inclusive.
Now when you preview the invoice in Xero, it will show the tax-exclusive amounts followed by the tax amount.
