Let Xero work out the tax amount

Every invoice we send carries the tax figure Shopify calculated. If your Xero tax rates work it out slightly differently, the invoice can land a cent or two away from the order. We can let Xero calculate the tax instead.

How it Works

Rather than sending Shopify’s tax figure, we send each line with its tax rate and let Xero do the arithmetic. The invoice then agrees with the tax rates in your Xero organisation, which is what your BAS or VAT return is built from.

The trade-off is that Xero’s figure wins. Where the two systems genuinely disagree, the invoice will match Xero and can differ from the Shopify order by a small amount.

When this is the right fix

It suits rounding differences between the two systems. It will not correct a line posted under the wrong tax rate — that is a mapping problem, and Taxes Missing or Incorrect in Xero covers it. If you are not sure which of the two you have, send us an order number and we will look.
