Customer details needed for Shopify POS sales
A sale made in Shopify POS posts to the Xero contact for the customer on the order. To do that, the customer needs an email address, or both a first name and a last name. If they have neither, or the sale has no customer at all, the invoice is raised against a shared contact named Shopify POS.
This matters most when you use a default customer for walk-in sales. A default customer saved with a first name only posts to Shopify POS, while one with both a first and a last name posts to its own contact.
How to post POS sales to your own contact
- In Shopify, open the customer you use for these sales.
- Add a last name or an email address, then save.
Sales against that customer then post to their own Xero contact. To move an order that has already posted, re-post it from Dashboard - Orders. Please do not void the invoice in Xero first, because a voided invoice cannot be updated.
Worth knowing
If Use a single "Shopify POS" contact for new POS customers is turned on in Setup - Advanced, new POS customers post to the Shopify POS contact whatever details they have. See Use one Shopify POS contact instead of a contact per shopper.
