Match product SKUs to Xero items
By default the app sends the product name and price to Xero, and nothing else. That records your revenue, but Xero has no idea which of your items was sold, so stock levels and cost of goods don't move.
How it Works
With SKU matching on, the app looks up a Xero item whose code matches the Shopify variant's SKU and puts that item on the invoice line. Xero then draws the stock down and posts the cost of goods for you.
The SKU in Shopify and the item code in Xero have to match exactly, including case and punctuation.
How to turn it on
- Go to Setup - Xero or Dashboard - Products.
- Find Match product SKUs.
- Click Turn on.

Then open Dashboard - Products to see which of your variants found a Xero item and which didn't. Anything showing Not Found needs either the SKU fixing in Shopify or the item creating in Xero.
One knock-on effect: the Product mapping override section lower down that page only applies while SKU matching is off. With matching on, the Xero item decides the account.
A related setting worth knowing about
This setting turns matching on. It doesn't insist that matching succeeds. If you want an order held back when a product has no match, that's a separate switch, Require a SKU match for every product on Setup - Advanced. The two work independently.
